 Within the varius awareness programmes CCHP is implementing in the Bethlehem District, it was celebrated on the 8th of June the completion of the Community Mapping Project with students at Dar Makhlouf in Beit Jala, which was rehabilitated recently to serve as a headquarter for Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC), which was implemented with the 8th grade students from the Evangelical Lutheran School in Beit Sahour, Beit Fajjar Secondary School for Girls and Hussan Secondary School for Girls, in cooperation with the Directorate of Education in Bethlehem and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
Mr. Abdullah Shakarneh, Director of the Directorate of Education and professor Fayez Ja'ara, coordinator of the extracurricular activities at the Directorate attended the event.
Mrs. Mays Yatim-Salsa', Head of Public Awareness and PR at CCHP, welcomed the audience thanking the Directorate of Education for their constant cooperation in carrying out such programmes, which have a major influence in preserving our cultural heritage, and which are considered complementary to the rehabilitation of traditional buildings the CCHP is implementing in the towns and villages of Bethlehem.
Moreover, Mrs. Yatim stressed the need to communicate and to participate as a mean to promote the concept of heritage and necessity to preserve it, indicating that the project aims to introduce student to the heritage of their country and its surroundings, giving them a chance to think and research in the properties that make it distinctive and unique and of course, increasing their awareness of the area they are living in.
In his turn, Mr. Abdullah Shakarneh thanked the CCHP for its efforts in spreading awareness and underlined the importance of the cooperation between the institutions of the community, pointing out to the continued cooperation between the Centre and the Directorate of Education in the implementation of extracurricular activities, which helps in raising awareness among students keeping them updated regarding critical issues such as heritage.
As well, he congratulated and thanked the participated schools and students for the cooperation which demonstrates the partnership of the public sector with national organizations to preserve the architectural and cultural heritage.
As a way to exchange knowledge and experience students from all schools presented a simple explanation for their actions and the idea of the models done.
At the end, the CCHP honored the schools and students thanking them for their cooperation and participation.
